2012 Kinect Bowl - Great Wolf Pack Members and Littles-to-be!

We had a great time last night with our friends at Great Wolf Lodge for our second annual Kinect Bowl! 25 kids waiting for a Big joined Pack Members for Kinect Bowling, a Wii Dance competition, and dinner. A few Pack Members even decided to become a Big! Thank you Great Wolf Lodge for being fabulous hosts and for helping us kick off Bowl for Kids’ Sake!

Thanks to our friends at REI this will be a great year for our Littles. Through their Round-Up, REI raised enough to fund 6 HARK outings! HARK is a partnership between Big Brothers Big Sisters of Southwest Washington and the Olympia Mountaineers that allows our Littles to do outdoor activities with their Bigs such as rock climbing, hikes, and snowshoeing. Thank you REI and all of our friends who rounded-up on their purchases!

Free Pumpkin Stencils Show Support for Big Brothers Big Sisters

Big Brothers Big Sisters has been selected as one of five organizations participating in the inaugural “Carving for a Cause” promotion with Better Homes and Gardens magazine! Pick up the October edition of Better Homes and Gardens—on newsstands now—and check out the Big Brothers Big Sisters pumpkin stencils on page 16. You can Download the two FREE pumpkin stencils from the Better Homes and Gardens website.

Better Homes and Gardens will donate $2 to Big Brothers Big Sisters of America for every stencil downloaded, up to $5,000.

Philanthropedia’s mission is to improve nonprofit effectiveness by directing money to and facilitating discussion about expert recommended, high-impact nonprofits. In turn, their “theory of change” is that these expert-driven recommendations have tremendous potential to improve the pace of social change.

CEO Roger Jones with his Little Brother of 6 years, Tyler

131 Bigs, Littles, families and friends took part in our 4^th annual agency picnic last Saturday. Guests enjoyed the sunshine and a delicious BBQ served up by Executive Director, Roger Jones. Our friends at the Mountaineers (Olympia Branch) hosted several recreational activities, including the ever-popular kayak demonstration. A BIG thanks to everyone who made this event a success!

11 teams joined us at Westside Lanes on Saturday, June 11^th for the State Bowl. Participants of the State Bowl raised nearly $6,500! DSHS ADSA Thing 1 earned the bragging rights as our top pledge-earning team and Lindy Blankenship of Thing 1 was our top pledge-earning individual. Thing 2 represented as well, team captain Tamarra Paradee was the second highest pledge-earning individual. Way to go! We had teams from DSHS, DIS, and HCA. A BIG thanks to all of our participants!

Congratulations Michelle Wall! Michelle Wall, team captain of Spare ME, was our top pledge earner for our 2011 Bowl for Kids' Sake. Thank you, Michelle, for your hard work in raising so much for the kids in your community. You really make a difference! As top pledge earner, Michelle wins a 7 day Holland America Cruise for two to the Caribbean or Mexico. We also want to thank our runner up Aver Stegal. Way to show your support and dedication to Big Brothers Big Sisters!

Spare "ME"

We had a great time at the Cops vs Firefighters Bowl on Saturday! A BIG thanks to our heros who delivered an amazing $9800 and slipped on their bowling shoes to celebrate! Team Spare "ME" earned bragging rights as the top pledge-earning team at the bowl and Team Ockerman took home the trophy for the Cops vs Firefighters Bowl-off. Swing Shift Strikers came in second; Thurston County High Rollers came in third; and Flashpoint came in fourth. Thanks to all of our participants for a fun time and for starting something for our kids!

The Financial Bowl on Saturday, March 19th was a great success! 14 teams joined us at Westside Lanes for a celebration and some friendly competition. Participants of the Financial Bowl have raised nearly $9,000 so far. Olympia Federal Savings earned the bragging rights as our top pledge-earning financial institution. Way to go! And a BIG thanks to everyone who went out and earned pledges for our kids. If you would like to make a contribution to the Financial Bowl please click here.

Pack Members howling for Jen from Star 101.5

What a blast we had at Great Wolf Lodge during our Kinect Bowl! 43 of our waitlist kids joined Pack Members for Kinect Bowling, games, and dinner. Our amazing friends at Great Wolf Lodge have raised $4,987.00 to date! Thank you Great Wolf Lodge staff for getting out there and giving us your support. And most of all thank you for giving our waitlist kids a great time and something to look forward to! We are so inspired by what Pack Members raised; we hope it inspires you as well!
